No other Emil subtypes were authorized. In fact, the Bf 109 E-1/B, E-3/B and E-4/B were built to carry only 50, 250 and 500 kg bomb(s) in various combinations. The E-7 and E-8 also carried these bombs but without any notation change to their series designations.

Hi Harold,

not only BF109 E was able to carry this SD-2, G- version too. Look at the link below to find "Rüstsatz IV" for BF109 G

Re: Picture of LW plane with SD-2

Johnny B,

Sorry, but I doubt this site. There is just no official record of the SD 2 system being used beyond ANY Bf 109 after the Emil series. And the site is suspect partly because it does not list the Gustav subtype which is an important omission. Then too, you might expect the Bf 109 F to also employ the system, but yet here again there is no official record of it progressing beyond the Emil E-7/U1, U2 and U3.

Close, but there are accurate records of SD-2s dropped in the Ipswich area of East Suffolk on the afternoon of 27 October 1940, possibly during the Jabo attack on RAF Martlesham Heath. The first warnings regarding unexploded examples were issued by the BBC the following day.
