Re: Cockpit photo of a Bf 110 G-4 nightfighter

Hi Chris, Nick and Peter,

Thank you very much for your help and links and photos!

I have a copy of Monogram's Close-Up by George G. Hopp in my collection and just checked it. There is indeed a photo of the radio operator's position as well as a photo of Peter Cohausz's original Bf 110 G instrument panel.

I remember this CIOS/BIOS report. I think I once even had an original copy, but have not scanned it before I traded it. As far as I can remember, there was a photo of the main instrument panel, although the quality of the photo was poor and the panel was missing some of its instruments. Peter, Chris do you also have a scan of that photo?

I am looking for a cockpit photo that shows the control stick of a Bf 110 G-4 equipped with MG 17s instead of the MK 108 (like e.g. for the Hendon Bf 110 G-4). The only possibility for such a photo would be a wartime photo (I have checked most of the wartime manuals already, but they sometimes show prototype configurations). But for some odd reason, they seem to be extremely rare considering that there were quite a few Bf 110s around at the end of the war.

Best regards,
Roger

Re: Cockpit photo of a Bf 110 G-4 nightfighter

As I've mentioned above Roger, this is all I can find thus far with regards photos included in this report. I have subsequently located a page of text from the same report, which can be viewed via the link below:

Perhaps reproduction of this page will jog somebodies memory and lead to the complete report surfacing. I've dropped George Hopp/Felix an email to see if he has a copy, albeit, I know he's been ill recently, so hope my correspondence to him find him in better health

Cheers

Re: Cockpit photo of a Bf 110 G-4 nightfighter

Hi SES,

Thanks for the link! Although, I am particularly interested in a wartime photo of the cockpit on which also the control stick is visible, it is quite an interesting article and a nice replica panel.

Hi David and Christian,

Many thanks for that excellent report! That is exactly what I was looking for. One photo shows the half-looted cockpit and part of the control stick. There appears to be an additional button attached to the stick (on the front of the wire connection box), which I thought was for "Kampfdurchladung" of the MG 17 (so all charged at once). But this aircraft was not equipped with MG 17. Maybe, the aircraft originally had MG 17s and the button was left in place when it was retrofitted with MK 108s. The button is not installed in the Bf 110 at Hendon, which was also equipped with MK 108 (but maybe already delivered with MK 108s and never had MG 17s).

Cheers,

Roger
