F/S Raymond Hayles DFM
RAF Bomber Command Losses of Second World War 1944 confirms your theory concerning the loss of the aircraft that Hayles was in - Lancaster Mk III, LM456 coded LS-C, that crashed on a raid on Struttgart on 21/2/44.
However the aircraft is recorded as being hit by flak and bombs from another aircraft - no doubt from a British bomber. Larry
