Jan is correct. 56th FG was in combat with IV./JG 54. Two P-47's were shot down;
42-26316, 2./Lt. Cagle, KIA, Weerselo (NL). 43-25515, 2./Lt. Spicer, KIA, Lochem (NL). IV./JG 54, who were, while flying low on the deck, jumped on by the P-47's lost several pilots; Fw. Bauer, 13./JG 54, KIA, Laren (NL). Fw. Vogelbacher, 13./JG 54, MIA, Laren (NL). Lt. Olsen, 13./JG 54, WIA, Raum Arnheim (NL). Ofhr. Baur-Bargehr, 14./JG 54, WIA, Almelo (NL). Fw. Jost, 14./JG 54, WIA (DOW 23/9), Almelo (NL). Uffz. Guse, 14./JG 54, MIA, Raum Arnheim (NL). Fw. Mieszala, 16./JG 54, MIA, Raum Arnheim (NL). Lt. Jung, 16./JG 54, KIA, Lochem (NL). I have done extensive research into this battle and had contact with most survivors and relatives of the KIA/MIA.
