In Fighters over the Desert from C Shores and H Ring there are a few photos of a Ju 87B from 1/St.G.2 A5 that looks like HI. It is staed that it went to Chicago for an exibition.
Does anybody know what happened to it, and was it HI??

Re: Ju 87B A5 to America.

There is a Stuka on display in Chicago, Illinois, along with a Spitfire Mk. 1A. The Stuka is listed as a Ju 87 R-2/Trop. Werk Nr. 5954.

The Experimental Aircraft Assocation restored it for the Chicago Museum back in 1974. I believe it was acquired during the Second World War along with the Spitfire as part of drive to raise money for War Bonds. And as I recall the wheel pants were not on it when it came to the US.

There are plenty of images of it on the Web.

Hi Tony.
Thx for the promp reply.
I know it came via truck to 15 sqdn SAAF while they were based at Amiriya.
I only found out today that it went to the USA, and to Chicago.
Will look it up on the net.
Thx

Re: Ju 87B A5 to America.

Hi Phillipe.
That would make sense as the photos I saw showed it on a truck.
The photos in the book mentioned above showed it on wheels, so must have been taken off when they moved it.

Hi Revi.
Thx, saw it,
I do need some good shots that I can use in a book, and where the owner gives me rights to publish.
I contacted them, and wi9ll see what they say.
Phillip1, one of the photos I saw shows it standing in the desert with that U/c.

Re: Ju 87R-2/trop WNr.5954 in America

WNr.5954 was A5+HL from 3./St.G. 1, and was 'written off' as 80% damaged after a crash-landing due to enemy fire, 22.November 1941 at Gambut.

So that explains why the 1/48 scale Monogram model I built in the 1960s had the A5+HL decal.
