Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Thank-you for the replies gentlemen. My great uncle was from grossschwabhausen in Thuringen, but my father vividly remembers him getting drafted into the Heimatflak & being sent to Koblenz. I've got a photo of him in his uniform which I will try to scan & post. Once again thanks gents.

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
Hi Larry, yes that's certainly a possibility. I sent an email to the bundesarchiv asking if they have any information on him, hopefully they do. Cheers

Re: Heimatflak units in Koblenz
One last thought, Shane. Of the 28 Heimat-Flakbatterien in the Luftgau VI area that I mentioned, I am guessing that number is probably less than half of the total number that existed with Luftgau VI numbering. I have only identified 11 leichte Heimat-Flakbatterien with the -/VI numbering and the last of these that I have is 61/VI. If the numbering was sequential with no gaps, then there may have been 50 more of them.
The same is true for the schwere Heimat-Flakbatterien with the -/VI numbering. I have 17 of these with the last numbered 240/VI. The schwere series always begins with 201/VI, so there may have been at least 23 more of them. So, there are a lot of gaps. Another fact is that Heimat-Flakbatterien rarely left the Luftgau in which they were formed. They were moved around within the Luftgau as needed, but not out of the Luftgau. Now you know everything I know! I hope you find the one you are looking for. WASt Berlin is your best bet. L. Last edited by Larry deZeng; 23rd May 2012 at 20:27. |
