Chinese Spitfires are a Myth, right?

While there have been unconfirmed statements in print that the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force received Spitfire IXs from the Soviet Union post-war, I am aware of no serious evidence of Chinese Spitfires.

Is anyone aware of such evidence?

The Soviets may have considered that as the PLAAF was doing a fairly good job keeping (Packard) Merlin-powered P-51s and Mossies operating, they could handle Spitfires. The Soviets sent the Chinese a lot of junk (e.g., MiG-9s that the Soviet Air Force wanted to dispose of rather than try and fly).

I think that, like the Loch Ness monster, photographic evidence is unlikely to be determinative.

However, I have been told there are reports in Foreign Office documents from the early 1950s in which someone -- a UK diplomat, traveller, or journalist -- said they saw (a) Spitfire(s) in the PRC. I do not believe the witness' aircraft recognition skills were detailed.

So, the mystery continues. It shall have to be considered with Amelia Earhart, Wing Commander Baldwin, and the Avro Tudors as unsolved.

The Chinese Nationalists had "some" Spitfire Mk. V's.
I wonder where that information came from and can it be verified ?

FLIGHT IN THE CHINA AIR SPACE, which seemed to cover most types of aircraft to show up in China, has no Spitfire. Neither the Shacklady/Morgan book nor Air Britain's volume on international Spitfire has them.

So far we're still in Loch Ness without our Nessie.

the info-his real i seen photos of them..in china markings 1943.ish..
im tryin to locate the book-s..i seen them in...
but as of late sum mod upset me..reason unknown why.i done nothing wrong'? a stalker..a control freak?-a bully'
