Re: Fine Ju 88's wreck pictures, Italy 1943 - 1944.

Why? Foggia airfields was major operating base for Luftwaffe in summer 1943. Some had accidents there (before), others had been damaged etc.. Likely many were cannibalised for spares, as many were bare hulks or wrecks when captured. Many were "blown up" to prevent capture. I guess the speed area was captured by Allies, no time to clear or salvage wrecks, or repair damaged aircraft. Some even apparently had little damage, such as Ju 88 A-4 300227 PI+SU was repaired by Allies and taken to USA.

(088)8842 Ju 88 A-4 had 10% accident "Piacensa" 29.06.43 with II/KG 77, but this number is also reported along with thirteen I/KG 76 aircraft "blown up" at Foggia on 20.09.43, so in this case British and Luftwaffe lists agree.

But there are problems in researching all these aircraft left behind: Some aircraft numbers listed by British do not show in 6 Abt. losses lists, and others listed in 6 Abt. losses lists do not show in British list, but the British list many wrecks without numbers. But showing (us) photos like posted here helps much in indentifying some of these, and makes history of this more complete. Thank you Marc.
