Hans-Jürgen Heppe JG 2

Hello,

According to most lists Hans-Jürgen Hepe claimed 1 victory in Spain flying the He 51B and 8 victories in WWII while flying with the JG 2. However when looking through various lists (including Tony Woods invaluable ones), I find a total of 14 victories credited to him. Thus this is the correct number credited to him or there are a couple of errors in these lists (probable, shared, typos etc.). Are there any JG 2 experts out there that can help me (btw. I have Mombeeck's and Roba's excellent “In the skies of France”, which confirms the two first in WWII)?

Hans-Jürgen Hepe JG 2

Hello Håkan

Prien does not list the two victories that you have included for 21 June 1941 but he does list the victory claimed on 6 April 1941 as his third and the two victories claimed on 23 June 1941 as his sixth and seventh. The Spitfire claimed on 13 October 1941 is not given a victory list number and his ninth victory is listed as the Spitfire claimed on 19 August 1942. It thus appears that the claim made on 13 October 1941 was not confirmed. Prien lists the victory claimed on 1 May 1943 as his twelfth (he does not include Spanish Civil War victories in his lists). I hope this helps you somewhat.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Hans-Jürgen Heppe JG 2

Hi Guys

His two in France, and all others listed above(except that in Spain) are recorded on the Micro Films. The second on 19th August 1942 at 1228 hrs and 500 metres was A.S.M.....but seems to have been ultimatley confirmed. He was the Kommandeur of I./Jgr105 from September 1943 until 15th September 1944. In December 1944 he joined I./Jg400. He was the Staffelkapitän of 1./Jg2 from 31st July 1942 until he was wounded on 29th May 1943........this explains his abrupt end of claiming. Total fourteen confirmed!

Regards

Johannes

P.S He was born on 30th October 1912. Cannot find any date of death for him, so presume he survived the war. Grateful if anybody could supply a date of death.
