Re: BBC Broadcast
Steve
See links at http://www.movinghistory.ac.uk/archives/index.html I think this is the one I have seen featured on TV http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/Collection http://www.britishpathe.com/search/r...ar++Revolution http://film.britishcouncil.org/british-council-film-collection/about-the-collection http://yorkshirefilmarchive.com/ http://yorkshirefilmarchive.com/using-footage http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/ BBC War and Conflict http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/collections.shtml This list relates specifically to items currently available as part of the BBC Archive collections. This does not represent a definitive list of BBC contributors, nor is it representative of the assets held within the BBC Archives. http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/programme/#a BBC - As the BBC maintains its own large archive, the main issue was study access and, in 1990, the Archive began, with the help of a grant from the BBC, to record viewing (S-VHS) copies of the entire output of BBC Television, in order that the programmes could be made publicly accessible. At the same time, the BBC donated a large collection of programming on 2" videotape, which it had transferred to modern formats for its own use. The current BBC Charter promotes archival co-operation between the BBC and the NFTVA and forbids the Corporation from throwing anything away without first offering it for deposit in the Archive. Before we dispose of any material, any TV material, it's always offered to the British Film Institute and they take a reasonable selection of material they want. http://www.bfi.org.uk/archive-collections Apparently the donated BBC Sound Archive goes to the British Library. I have a distant memory that Southampton University has wartime film or images. Have you tried the University online catalogue, that link to all the Uni electronic catalogues such as Copac and Elgar etc. Have you tried the IWM, if they don't hold the required footage, have you asked where you might find footage? http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/footage?esource=google+UK_Film_Brand_EN_SL&kw=UK+% 2bgetty+%2bfilm+Broad&lid=sxVHRwpkM&pcrid=21910844 446&property=GI Edward Murrow covered the war here working at CBS Europe his main papers are at Tufts University https://wikis.uit.tufts.edu/confluence/display/MurrowCollection/Home CBS might be worth a try. Murrow family papers Mount Holyoke College Massachusetts. A selection of some radio recordings are on the internet archive.org usually for free download http://archive.org/index.php Regards Mark |
