Hi Tom,

The first "1" indicates the Gruppe, the second "1" the Staffel. The letter just after the black cross identifies the aircraft within the Staffel, starting with A, then B, C....

I./KG253 was based at Gotha from April 1st 1936 till May 1st 1939. But from February 1937 on they began to convert to Ju86.

The code 33+xxx was used from June 1st 1936 till early July 1939.

So your picture was probably taken between June 1936 & early 1937.
