Knew nothing about what? The Brown Shirts were out in the open. "Wehrt Euch, Kauf nicht bei Juden!” My parents both spent the war in Nazi Germany. They too were among the untermensch, but not Jews. Anyone caught sabotaging the Nazis could be taken out and shot. My mother had a rifle pointed at her at a checkpoint by a German guard. He was yelling at her that she was the enemy. Only the intervention of the officer in charge allowed her to pass without further incident.
