Re: Photos 4-26-13 +

Hi udf

Interesting if the group of photos are connected with III/JG53 as mentioned in the loss of this Spitfire and part of the same album and the time Pingel was flying with III/JG53 in June but was with 2./JG53 in August 1940.

Same group seller. Now this is red 6.

Looks like there is a few from JG53 and a number showing red serials and no bars etc so it does look like the album was connected to 2./JG53 and interestingly there seems to be Condor photos in there as well and we know Pingel flew in Spain.

Mark, difficult to tell if it's red or not but if it is then theres a strong possibility that it is 'Red 6' prior to application of the experimental scheme. The numeral and the fuel octane triangle are in pretty much identical positions on both photos.

The experimental/non standard schemes were in use approximately from early October 1939. Then the airframes that had it applied started to be manually toned down around the beginning of 1940. With underlying evidence of the schemes still being visible on machines well into the BOB and possibly beyond.

Re: Photos 4-26-13 +

Hi Clint,

On the sellers page there are a number of Bf109 and F's shown, all with the ace of spades. Most seem to have red numbers and couple white. I think it is I/JG53 and from 1939 through to 1941/42.

Worth a look.

regards

Mark

You're welcome. Panning for gold on the internet is less labor-intensive than panning for gold by some cold stream somewhere.
