Oberfeldwebel and Air Signals Assistant

Ok, so my Father is searching old German documents and found just now that my Grandmother Charlotte Ruth Tost Tillack was an Air signals Assistant. Also, that my Grandfather Otto Karl Tillack was listed as a Oberfeldwebel. I know I keep asking, but hoping someone may be able to give me all the info or point me in the right direction to get the info on my Grandparents.
Thanks in advance,
Charlotte "Char"

Your best bet is to write to BA or WASt, stating you are a relative and that you would like to know more about their careers. I doubt whether you will get much on your Grandmother though as being ground based, there were many, many thousands of ground crew

Re: Oberfeldwebel and Air Signals Assistant

Hello Char,
hope you can/will be patient. The WaSt send, in average, their information twelve months later follow your request!
What you write is not so much only two names and ranks.
The Oberfeldwebel member of the Luftwaffe too?
Which unit, any Field Post Number known aso

Just a link to a German site.
http://www.forum-der-wehrmacht.de/

May this site can given assist as well.

In case that you are not so similar with German language please let me know.

All the best.
Manfred

Re: Oberfeldwebel and Air Signals Assistant

Manfred,
From what we know he was with the Unit 11/NJG5 and he was an Oberfeldwebel and was a Luftwaffe and also a Bordfunker 'radio Operator" The story goes that he was on a flight Ju88 G-1 WNR.710458 and it was shot down and he was KIA . this was on April 11th, 1944
My Father was born in Welzow there are the base we believe and my Grandmother Charlotte worked as an Air Signals Assistant and in Corosspondence. I would love to be able to have all of his military history and flight infos etc.....

I have only one picture here with me and it was taken just prior to the plane being shot down and my Grandfather being KIA.

Re: Oberfeldwebel and Air Signals Assistant

Char -

In the past, there have been several extensive threads on Axis History Forum that were initiated by close relatives trying to find information on mothers, grandmothers and aunts who served in Wehrmacht female auxiliary units. After years of research and inquiry, they all found that there were no useful official records or other information. However, those who had letters and photos were able to obtain some information from historical researchers on the discussion sites such as this one and Axis History Forum. But without information contained in letters and photo captions, I am afraid you will not find much if any information concerning your grandmother's wartime service.
