Malacky airdrome

HI all,
This is my first message in 2006 so HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
On September 20, 1944 there was American air raid against Malacky - Novy Dvor airdrome, Luftwaffe base that was used as shooting range, and training area. It was located in Western Slovakia som 30 KM NW from Bratislava. Luftwaffe used this base to operate against Slovak national uprising.
I am currious, if any of the luftwaffe loss experts may have a look in their databases and possibly pick for me losses related to this base and dated on September 20, 1944. Also I am interested which units were located there at that time.
Can ANYONE help with ANY info? Some nt official and not confirmed sources mention destruction and damage to He 111, Ju-87s, Ju 88s, Bf 110s, Do17s Ju 52s etc...
THANKS
Peter

Re: Malacky airdrome

The raid arrived at the worst moment, the archives known stop at end of september 44, so time to give notice nd very few are listed
Malacky was often used as transit for pilots tranfering machines from factories to front-units

Re: Malacky airdrome

Hi Guys,

The 20 September raid occurred right in the middle of the Slovak National Uprising (late August to late October 1944). It is probable that some of the German combat types being used against the Slovaks were based there.

Is there any evidence as to whether the raid was mounted in support of the Slovak insurgents?

Cheers,

Sid.

Re: Malacky airdrome

Hi Sid,

sure it was related to that...
Air recon revealed higher activity of ground unit support types of A/C just on sept 17, 1944. Decision was made...
I presume that it was also in direct corelation to SNU (Slovak National uprising) as OSS group landed in free land area on September 17, 1944 and were able to radiotransmit demands of Gen. Golian to bari with requets for help to guerilla army...However I never saw a proove of this, but I guess it is highly probable...
regards

Peter

Re: Malacky airdrome

Hi Peter,

Thanks.

Do you know what Luftwaffe units were used against the SNP and where they were based? There seem to have been considerable forces used at various times.

Cheers,

Sid.

Re: Malacky airdrome

I do not know it by mind...some Ju 87 units definitelly, some Ju 88s as well..
but Malacky was training and reunining base, plus training shoting range ...so many planes could be also present because of training purposes...
