Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
Those jets have been already in the inventory of JV44 in the last days of WW2, no time being left to repaint them or even apply new markings. They were blown up by two well-placed handgrenades in both jet intakes when JV44 left for Salzburg-Maxglan and Innsbruck-Hötting. Ended its days at the Brunnthal scrapyard.

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
Hi Nick and all,
In fact I'm pretty sure it's FE-4012, Weisse 25, from NAGr. 6, i.e. WNr. 500453. We can (hardly) see the "25" with "2" not in line with "5". Regards, Franck. |

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
Is there definite evidence that those reconnaissance and trainer aircraft with the outlined white numbers belonged to NAGr. 6 (or to any operational unit)?

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
A look on p.85 in JaPo´s excellent "Messerschmitt Me 262 Production & Arado Ar 234 Final Operations" reveals the true identity of the Me 262A-1a/U3. The camo stripes are absolute identical to "White 27" WNr 500098, said to be from III./EJG 2 and captured by US troops at Lechfeld a/f.
The jet went into Colonel Watson´s "Whizzers" inventory as "666", nick-named "Joanne" resp "Cookie VII" and crossed the Atlantic on HMS Reaper. It crashed on 19th August 1945 close to Pittsburg/US during a landing attempt, being piloted by Lt. Ken Holt (uninjured) The unique camo pattern was applied by Flugzeugwerk Eger (FWE), now Cheb/CZ, which modified Augsburg- and Regensburg-manufactured jets to Aufklärer standard. Regards Roland |

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
@Nick:
This "identity" is given like that in the best forums ever TOCH and LEMB since years.... ![]() Ask the author(s) please. And like written by RollancF underneath: "The unique camo pattern was applied by Flugzeugwerk Eger (FWE), now Cheb/CZ, which modified Augsburg- and Regensburg-manufactured jets to Aufklärer standard" @RolandF "My" WNr500098 has natural metal skin around turbine outlet and inlet, not that one... So, I don't know. Regards, Franck. |

I try to maintain a healthy scepticism.

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
Right Nick,
I'm just surprised you're the only one - and first one as far I know - to have wrote such during the 6 years I've been reading posts. And the "funniest" part of the story is that you can be right. Regards, Franck. |

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
JaPo´s publication says on p.66: "NAG 6 most likely handed over the aircraft to III./EJG 2 at Lechfeld who used it to retrain pilots for jet aircraft. In March 1945 the reconnaissance units NAG 1 and NAG 6 received order to hand over 14 Me 262´s to III./EJG 2 (recorded on 31st March 1945). Ten days later on 10th April 1945, a document stated that 11 aircraft had already been handed over. These were presumably the photo-reconnaissance Me 262s mostly found at Lechfeld."
I just want to add "White 34" (same digit style) which had the camera nose exchanged with a fighter nose and was found at the Brunnthal scrapyard, too. This would significate imo that "Wh 34" did not belong to a recce unit any more. Regards Roland Last edited by RolandF; 17th October 2013 at 19:45. |

Re: eBay: Two Me 262 photos.
Kdo. Braunegg and NAG 6 did all their Me 262 conversion training at Lechfeld but left when they became operational. By 27 March 1945 the Stab, 1. and 2. Staffeln were at Vörden, Ahlhorn and Münster-Handorf. 1./NAG 1 had also converted in Lechfeld but was operational from Zerbst on 6 April with all its serviceable aircraft.
On 8 April 1945, Maj. Kröchel at Lechfeld advised Luftflotte Reich that "Re-equipping detachment Close Recce" was at present training 8 pilots of 1./NAG 1 on a SILBER [Me 262] borrowed from III./JG 2 [sic]. I doubt if they'd have to have borrowed an Me 262 from III./EJG 2 if there were aircraft of their own at Lechfeld. The Americans arrived in Lechfeld on 27 April, as near as I can tell. There are two articles about these Me 262 reconnaissance units on my website. |
