Re: Kharkov-42... and authorship rights violation

Andrey:

Has Vlad contacted the publisher or his co-author to ask about this?

Vlad is not good enough in English to communicate with foreigners fluently, so as far as I he told me the story, he haven't asked.

But Dmitriy Karlenko really asked, and they told him that they "are sorry" and in some next issue that "misprint" will be mentioned.

But I still think it's not equal things.

I'm researcher and author myself and I would be VERY insulted by such treatment.

I don't know, what would they do if Vlad would be western researcher. Reprint the issue? Stamp it additionally? I don't think there were any precedents.

It is very unpleasant incident, indeed.
Due to this mistake I can lost the co-author and partner, but to get mistrust and bad reputation.
Now I try to communicate with publisher, however all my messages come back for the unknown "technical" reason...

Hi,

I had similar problems several years ago, the publisher ( after being 'threatened' with legal action ) sent loose leaf flyers to the main retail outlets for the book and attached a sticker inside the books they had in stock. Reprints appeared correctly!

HTH

Regards

David

Re: Kharkov-42... and authorship rights violation

This 'oversight' by the Publisher is outrageous, to say the least. I know it myself, as I am upset even when they omit to include the proper diacritical (accent) marks on my name, let alone forgetting a co-author altogether.

However, let me point out, this is not the first time this particular French Publisher has problems with the authors' names. In their 1st 'Hors-Série' book, on the Bf 109 in Rumanian colours, they forgot to include some of the co-authors as well. Not to mention the many mislabelled and wrongly credited photos. And none of the co-authors ended up on the cover!

I fully sympathise with Vlad (and Dmitriy), and I think this matter should be pushed further until a compromise solution would be found (as David mentioned, for example). That's the least the Publisher can do.

A club of what?
Will you be part of it?
