Krzysztof Wolowski made a drawing of Bf 109E-1 WNr.4065, “rote 12” of 2./JG 77 Ltn. Helmut Lohoff at Falcon’s Bf 109 Hangar:

Re: Bf 109E-1, W.Nr.4065

Hello,

@Rémi; Rote 11?
Trautloff flew it as Rote 1 (around September 1939). It is said to be Rote 1, flown by Priebe (Staka 2./JG 1) in "Anfang 1940", Prien JFV Teil II, page 461.
But Rote 11? I haven't. Why not after all.

Not only the profile but a September 1939 photo too for W.Nr.4065.

Photo: here Under; source unknown.

Is it enough for you Rasmussen or do you search for something else, as I think you do?

Regards, Franck.

Re: Bf 109E-1, W.Nr.4065

I asked because I own an picture of the crashed W.Nr.4065 with an complete other kind of signs of the fin. It's visible the red 2 (maybe the last digit of the red 12) without the red dot. Was helpful to know that's an a/c from JG 77 (maybe the a/c from Lohoff crashed in Mattenwalddorf --- hadn't found this village).

Greetings
Rasmussen

Re: Bf 109E-1, W.Nr.4065

Rasmussen,

This may help a little.

The photo of this a/c that was posted above by Franck shows the a/c at the beginning of the war, about the time the Polish Campaign began. Around the end of September, 1939, the red dot and the Staffel number were removed from the rear fuselage and tails of 2./JG77 aircraft. That could explain the differences you see in your crashed aircraft.

We've done a whole series of profiles for I./JG77 aircraft from this period for the EoE Project, which specifically documents these markings and the changes. Like you, I'm most interested in learning the date, place, pilot and circumstances of the crash of Red 12, WNr. 4065. Undoubtedly we have it in the EoE LW Loss DB, but I don't recognize a place called "Mattenwalddorf," so I can't yet pinpoint it for you. It won't be identified by a/c number or W.Nr. in the loss info for this period of the war, so we'll have to use other means to ID it. I'll be watching this thread for more information.

Regards,

Re: Bf 109E-1, W.Nr.4065

Hi, all

What WNr do you have on the reported Bf 109E-3 of JG 101, damaged 30% due to an emergency landig at Hoya? on Nov 18th 1939?

I have noted it as possibly 4065, but the microfilm copy is really bad.

Regards,
Andreas B

My interpretation from IWM 35 mm microfilm is 4048.
