Re: Photos 5-15

Thanks Guys

Yes, another friend gave me that same answer.
This is aircraft 'Z' from 805 Sq. They had three ashore and only one of them is known (AS419 which overturned on landing), the other two are unknown.

Kaki
763 Sq never operated the Buffalo and I believe if you have photos of another Buffalo at Crete it is from 805 Sq. Is it possible to read any details out of the photo, such as code or perhaps even a serial number (or part of one)?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photos 5-15

Stig,

according C. Shores, the other two were AS420 and AX814 ... but, we can find another (2nd hand) source talking about 6 machines in Crete ???

Can't do more!

Regards, Franck.

Re: Photos 5-15

Thanks for the pointers Franck

I have had a separate discussion with Andy Thomas regarding these Buffalos, and by discussing various photos and their merits we have a possible scenario like this.
805 Squadron were putting three Buffalos and six Fulmars ashore. If these Buffalos were followed by more, is so far not known.
The three were AS419, AS429 and AX814, probably coded as follows:
AS419 7X
AS420 7Z (port side coded 7Z, starboard side only Z)
AX814 7Y

This is nothing which is written in stone, but where I stand today....

Cheers
Stig
