Re: Bf109
Hello,
JFV T3, P74 says nothing but Prien writes Oblt. Erwin Mann made a Bauchlandung somewhere in (possibily) Belgium/France area because of the antenna shape in the background! (sic) ... Very clever! But no date ... And since the book starts (for JG3) from 10/5 and ends on 25/6 ... it's during this period; at least we can suppose. Note 1: Prien writes Oblt. Erwin Mann in caption BUT in victory list he writes Lt. Gunter Mann! Note 2: The photo depicts a plane which, obviously, received hits in fuselage. Then ... The Kracker list, is talking about an Oblt. Erwin Gunter Mann of 1./JG1 who made an emergency landing in FRANCE after a dog fight in GELBE 6 (Sic!) in APRIL 1940. All 3./JG1 markings were yellow outlined in black . The machine is White 6, no doubt. So ... Some kind of a mixture/confusion. We can suppose it's effectively Erwin Mann, and that's all. Only the white number and the unit are 100% sure in fact. Hence Larry's comment! ![]() Regards, Franck. |

Re: Bf109
Hello,</SPAN></SPAN>
Thank you for all these explanations. I have an opinion, but without the formal evidence. In June 5th and 6th, 1940, on the aerial combats on the Somme, the 1. /JG1 is present in the sector. - 5/6 Uffz Tismer is shot down 2km N. Lamotte-Warfusée (It is not him). - 6/6 LT Hammerschmidt MIA (Where ?) But especially, on the photograph, it is the electric pylon in background!!!This high voltage line always exists and the pylons are very recognizable… But this photograph will remain a mystery, one does not find the solution each time. Thank you for your assistance. Cordially. Alain |
