Re: Losses US 8-4-1944
Harrie,
There were some 14 P-51s MIA on 8 April 1944, at first glance 12 of them in Germany and 2 in the North of the Netherlands It may well be that a P-51 was last seen while still flying over Germany, but came down in Drenthe province eventually. Serial numbers according MACR and other loss sites are: 43-7166 Pilot POW (Capt Virgil Meroney). Reported captured in Germany. 43-7136 Pilot KIA 42-106463 Pilot POW (Lt Irving Reedy). Lost Friesland (Leeuwarden). 43-7147 Pilot KIA (Lt James Dickson). Lost Friesland/Drenthe border (Haule) 43-7148 Pilot KIA (Lt John Wenner) 43-12175 Lost Röhrsen, Germany 43-6737 Pilot KIA (Lt James Campbell) 43-6892 Lost Gifhorn area, Germany 43-6589 Lt Alfred Fontes, POW (listed as captured in Germany) 43-6689 Lost Gifhorn area, Germany 43-6866 Lost Gifhorn area, Germany 43-6967 Lost Uelzen, Germany 43-7029 Lost Celle area, Germany 43-7098 Lost Reinstorf, Germany (Lost = crash place) I don't know what exact place in Drenthe you're referring to? It seems that only 43-7147 is a remote candidate... Groet, Leendert |
