Seeking info sources for 8./StG2 Ju87B, T6+MS, WNr340, SD in Belgium on 11.05.40

Hello,

In Brian Cull's book on the RAF during the early days of the Western Campaign, "Twelve Days in May," P.74, he quotes an a/c code and W.Nr. for an 8./StG2 Ju87B-1 shot down on May 11, 1940.

Our EoE LW loss DB entry says:

"May 11, 1940: 8./StG2 Junkers Ju87B-1 (340). Shot down by No. 607 Squadron Hurricanes during attack on roads east of Tirlemont and crashed at ‘Les Forbots’, near Grand Rechain, 4.35 p.m. FF Oberlt Karl Janke and BF Uffz Georg Gärtig both captured wounded – believed later released. Aircraft T6+MS 100% write-off."

I believe that this info, at least partly, must come from photos of the crash scene, yet I've never seen any images of that incident. We're trying to develop the color profiles for III./StG2, and photos of this incident could be extremely helpful, as well as documenting the incident itself. Does Brian or anyone else have photos or other documentation of this crash that they can share with our research team?

Thanx in advance for any help you can give.

Hello Larry,

I checked info in my files, but I do not find the needed Ju87B T6+MS crash photos.
In my documentum have just one 8/StG2 aircraft, what was loss same day at 11 May 1940 nearby Gembloux.
Source photo from edwest's ebay pages.

I think for the colour profiles you can use my photo: Ju87B T6+DS. Could be same painting.

Best regards,

Balazs

Balazs,

Thanx for your support and info. I do already have this photo, plus another of the other side of it in the DB. I much prefer creating a profile that has the 8 Staffel insignia on the port side, and the III./StG2 Insignia on the starboard side. Unfortunately this a/c has neither.

Still searching for a photo of the T6+MS, W.Nr.340 that prompted my original question.
