Re: Gordon Gollob's ME109G?
There are other photos confirming this aircraft was a "G" and with JG 52, not JG 77

Re: Gordon Gollob's ME109G?
So these photos must have been taken during the period he was in acting command of JG 52 (25.7.42 - 31.8.42)
It's very puzzling that I can't find any propaganda photos that celebrate his 150th victory being that he was the first pilot in history to do so. He claimed 40 in August alone which is remarkable! |

Re: Gordon Gollob's ME109G?
Indeed it's a Bf109G-2.
Photo taken on 29 August 1942 the day he achieved his 150th victory. I'm not sure he was "acting" command of JG 52 since he was in Charge of JG77 since earlier May... But I don't know all and I, maybe, haven't the right book. (Source photo: eBay) I thought he just made his 150th in this plane, that' all. I don't have all necessary documentation. Correction: Hmm .... according to Holm's site he was acting Kdr of JG 52 effectively. Which is not indicated here: http://www.luftwaffe.cz/gollob.html. Note the machine has a III.Gruppe wave marking. Re: Gordon Gollob's ME109G?
Many thanks, I've not seen this photo before. Can I ask how you know it was taken on the 29th August?

Re: Gordon Gollob's ME109G?
Guys, I found some footage of Gollob in Die Deutsche Wochenschau, dated 8 July 1942. Starts at around 17 minutes in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm4k...CG9uqmbbqmy9dA I presume it's an F model? His 101st victory as mentioned in the footage was on the 20th May so it took the film makers just over a month to publish the film it seems. Just thinking out aloud but maybe the reason why there are no official photos of his 150th celebration was because the propaganda film crew had already been to film him in May and he was posted off operational flying in October? Der Alder has got him on the cover of the September 42 issue but there are no additional photos. Last edited by Schirmmutze; 6th June 2015 at 23:29. |

Over 500 views but only a few posts.
What a waste of time this forum is! |

waste of time?
I am sure that if any of those 500 people had answers, they would tell you. You are asking for history of something where very little is known. |
