Re: 205 Group losses 27-28 July 1944?
researcher111,
There was one loss on Lt Rautenbach.s Liberator: "On the homeward flight, Lt P. A. Rautenbach's Liberator was attacked by a night-fighter in the Danube area. No.3 engine was put out of action and the starboard engine was damaged. Then, after evasive action had been taken , it appeared that the navigator, Lt A. Dickinson,* had baled out. Only on arrival at base was it discovered that some of his parachute shroud lines had become snagged on the nose wheel, from which he was suspended. Efforts to recover the body were unavailing, and it had to be released south of the airfield, where it was recovered next day." See: Eagles Victorious. Martin,H.J. & N Orpen.
