Luftwaffe nightfighter loss 18th Feb 1943?

Hello everyone

I have a combat report from February 18th 1943, from Halifax II (Z Type) HR692 ZA-R of 10 Sqn in which the rear gunner describes repelling an attack from a Luftwaffe Me-110, which then appeared to explode and fall in pieces into the sea. Time is given as 20.25 hours, position is 53.50º N, 07.49º E, altitude 11,000 feet. The lat and long give a postion about 15km NE of Emden, and about 10km from the North Sea coast.

Is it possible to find an associated German loss for this report?

Many thanks.

Regards

Simon

Probably misidentification, because there is no Bf 110 loss, which would fit. However, there is this:
1943-02-18, 2./NJG 3, Do 217 J-2, 1258, D5+CK, Georgsheil 10 km westlich Aurich, Absturz infolge vermutlich Feindbeschuß. Bruch 100 %.
Flugzeugführer Fw Schuppan, Helmut, +
Bordfunker Uffz Baumann, Leopold, +
Bordmechaniker Ogfr Tuschy, Kurt, +

Re: Luftwaffe nightfighter loss 18th Feb 1943?

Thank you Matti, that's very helpful.

One further query, which I hope makes some sense!

I have seen that Schuppan claimed a Lancaster on the same night (the night of 18/19 February) at 2010 hours, at Luftwaffe map co-ordinate 7428D4. I understand this is near Borkum, so in close proximity to the Halifax's claim of the nightfighter.

Would this be the same time standard that the R.A.F. used - i.e. he shot down a Lancaster at 2010, but was himself shot down some 15 minutes later by the Halifax?

If that is the case, how would Schuppan's claim of the Lancaster have been reported?

Regards

Sorry, but I have no info on German claims. I am sure that other members of TOCH can help you.
