Re: Flugplatz Krissicha

Hello,

I did have look at this map: http://www.mapywig.org/m/German_maps...w_III.1941.jpg

And I did see there place (actually at least two of them - one north of Dno, another east of Dno) named Kriwucha. One can easily read this one as Krussicha if he/she separates vertical lines in letters iwu differently.
Also on map there are places Drosdicha and Krasucha - plenty of possibilites to speak and write them wrong

I was also contacted off the forum and suggested that maybe Dno-Grivochki (5 km south of Dno) is place we are searching for. There was landing ground, some pictures here: http://mefody60.livejournal.com/4127.html

Nice picture of Dno-Grivochki. The only two problems I have with Dno and it environs being the location of II./JG53 is that it was practically in the front lines on 18 July 1941 (see my attachment of Lage Ost for that day). My second problem is that Prien specifically states it went to Estonia. I do not have his sources so I am not going to question his research.
Using the same German maps I have found other possibilities (second attachment) like the two towns of Kuritsa to the southeast of Tartu both located on a decent road and next to a rail line. Also plenty of possibilities for Germans to pronounce them wrong... although the Germans may have done their best to spell things phonetically one still wonders how they got Trykovo from Toroshkovichi.
Then there is an interesting discussion of this subject from a few years back on an Estonian web site where they seem to believe that II./JG 53 was at Petseri (or Pechory part of Estonia until 1945). http://www.militaar.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12832
In 1941 there was a Soviet airfield there (see the third and fourth attachment) could it have been Kosselka or maybe Kuurakese ?
