Re: He.111 9./KG26. Aberdeen, 12 July 1940
Hi,
Not to Hijack Bill's thread, but would anyone happen know what B.LU stands for that is stamped into the goggles? Behind the outer steel plates, underneath is what looks to be a thick piece of Armoured glass set into the recess. I believe these were anti Flak Goggles. They were worn as seen as the outer plates retain the armoured glass. Many Thanks |

Never seen anything like these before and they do not figure in Anders Skötte or Mick Prodger's books. They do look German but BLU is not listed as a manufacturer?

Re: He.111 9./KG26. Aberdeen, 12 July 1940
Hi Chris,
I understand so and having collected for nearly forty years, I have not seen them before and I guess perhaps they are quite rare and not known that well. Mick Prodger has obtained items from myself that he has never seen before, which were genuine Luftwaffe Service Issue. His books albeit Excellent, do not cover everything that was produced. I was working in Aberdeen at the time I obtained these goggles. The gentleman told me his father had had them sat in a draw for many years. His son was not a collector and I recall he worked offshore. I have just been informed there are some for sale on German Ebay, but not complete. Quite a coincidence really. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-Schu...item4640c27cd9 Kind Regards |

What a coincidence indeed. Maybe a pre-runner to the splitterbrille?

Thanks, Ed. Much appreciated. Can anyone offer further explanations relating to the goggles : date introduced, use, construction, distribution?
