I have examined MACR No. 9740 and found the following information: • The aircraft was Lancaster Mk. III s/n JB 540. • Cause of loss: "Not known." • Location of loss: "Presumed over target." • Pilot: F/Sgt. W. A. Lumpkin; navigator: 1st Lt. Stanley W. Penner, USAAF • Unit assignment: RAF No. 12 Squadron, Wickenby, Lincoln • Target: Schweinfurt, Germany • Aircraft codes: Not reported in the MACR. Hope this helps a little bit. RA
