That same source mentions on page 132 that the cooling gills can be observed infrequently on the Fw 190 A-4. There is another pair of images of a Fw 190 A-4 with the controllable cooling gills on page 142. I have always read that the cooling gills were fitted to late production examples and the number of photographs that I have seen would appear to bear this out.
