Re: Loss of Ju 88, 9 Mar '43, Munich area.

Thanks for the reply "Junkers". I do realize that a claim does not mean a confirmed kill. I was as interested in the units in action that night as the possibility of a shoot-down

Re: Loss of Ju 88, 9 Mar '43, Munich area.

The interceptions of the Munich raid on the night 9-10.03.43 were made by NJG.4 over France, the unit claimed a total of 6 victories (1 Stirling - but the location given was near Charleville, 3 Lancaster & 2 Halifaxes). The attack was made shortly after leaving the target area, so maybe a newly established unit II./NJG.101 based at München-Riem equipped with Bf.110s and Do.217s was responsable.

Thanks Monaco,
The claimed "kill" was credited to a 149 gunner/crew (Ronnioe Zambra, to be precise) on their 3rd trip. They claim to have started the action at 0015 hrs, when they spotted an NF Flare 200yds behind thier aircraft, and shortly after, tracer coming in. Both gunners claim to have hit the aircraft (Ju88?) in the port engine, and all crew except the pilot, Laurie Blair still alive in NZ, say they saw it hit the ground and explode. It was credited as an official "kill" destroyed near Amerzee. On landing at West Malling they pulled up alonside an Fw 190 landed by mistake at West Malling. Its companion was shot down (?).
Thanks again for the info.
