Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3
Hi guys
Further to my comment, I have a note that Uffz Josef Stiglmaier of 14./JG77 had previously served with 9./JG3. He was killed in action on 17 September 1941 in action with Hurricanes from 151 Wing. Must be the same guy! It would appear that the combat on 7 June 1940 was against Hurricanes of 43 Squadron rather than Spitfires. Cheers Brian |

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3
Thank you for that, Brian, very useful.
I had been wondering myself whether his 'Kill' on 7th June 1940 might have been a mis-identification of a Hurricane for a Spitfire. |

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3
According to the NVM of 14./JG 77
Fw. Josef Stiglmair, geboren 10.04.1917 EM 57219/16 Stiglmair is the correct name. John |

Here is a photo of a grave stone.
https://billiongraves.com/grave/Jose...aier/17465583# A list that shows his name as the last one under "Second Part 1941." http://www.rafandluftwaffe.info/wp-c...Register-2.pdf Other details: http://www.cranston-military-prints.com/aircrew-history.php?AircrewID=1030 Ed |

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3
Thanks Ed,
The second two references are useful and appear to back up back up what others have said. Interesting though that the Nordic register appears to give his successful claim on 29th June (If I am interpreting it correctly) as his first, If he was the same person that claimed a 'Spitfire' on 7th June 1940 then it was at least his second. The grave reference is clearly not our man, the dates on the headstone are totally wrong...and he would have been just 14 when he was shot down and killed. |

Re: Uffz Josef Stiglmayer 9/JG-3
Does the EKM match JG 3 or 77?

I know the headstone has the wrong dates. It just surprised me when I found it. I don't know if that last name is common or not. Ed |

Quote:
The EKM is for 9./JG 3 which would confirm that the JG 3 Stiglmair and JG 77 Stiglmayer/Stiglmair are the same person. regards, Craig...
