Smile Oblt. Friedrich Kohlweiss shot in Troyes on the 27. July 1944

Hallo!

My Name is Andreas Kohlweiss!
I am from the City Graz in Austria

My Uncle 3rd grade was Oberleutnant Friedrich Kohlweiss.
He was a Luftwaffe Pilot with many flights in different Airplane types, like de He 111, the Me 110 and in his last days the Bf 109.

I am writting a short story about his Life and because of this i am searching for further informations about his dead.

He was shot in Romilly near Troyes (France) in the west front war on the 27th of July 1944.
The Unit I./JG 27 flies from Varades to Champfleury, where the unit get in trouble with american fighters/hunters. Then in a short air combat he was shot by an american hunter, but i have no information, which airplane or which pilot his fighting enemy was.

Maybe there is a specialist there in the forum which is able to help me to find out the name of the american pilot or at least the Airplane type. This would be great.

I have some further informations:
On this day he flies a Messerschmitt Bf 109 with the Production number 165658.

I am looking forward to hear from you,

Best regards and thank you,

Andreas Kohlweiss

512 FS was part of 406 Fighter Group and from what I can see was a P-47 unit

Hi Andreas,

if you wish, I can send you your 3rd uncle loss report. Just drop me a private message with your e-mail adress.

I don't know if your name is common and if he could be a member of your family, but there was another pilot, Oblt. Peter Kohlweiß, who was a member of the Zerstörerstaffel JG 5.

Cheers

Re: Oblt. Friedrich Kohlweiss shot in Troyes on the 27. July 1944

Hallo Mr. Mombeeck!

It is a great pleasure for me that you comment this thread!
I know your book about the JG 5 the first part, and i have also talked a lot
with Hptm. Karl-Fritz Schlossstein.
So you can see, that i have done some investigation work.

For sure i know the name Peter Kohlweiss, but you have to know that Peter
Kohlweiss from the 13.(Z) JG 5 and Friedrich Kohlweiss of the JG 27 was the
same Person.
Someone must made a mistake in some documents, Because i have an old
photo book of my grandmother, where i have the a lot of Pictures of the
13(Z)/JG 5 and also of Hptm. Schlossstein and some Me 110`s.

My Email Adress is andreas.kohlweiss@gmx.net
I don`t know why but the administrator does not allow me to send a private
message.
But it would be great if you send me the loss report. and maybe we can
change some other informations about Friedrich (Peter) Kohlweiss.

I have a lot of respect for your work, because the investigation must be very
difficult, and i am really happy, that you write in this thread.

Best regards,

Andreas
