Re: He111 lost 18/8/43 with Skorzeny aboard
According to the book '' Commando Extraordinary '' Skorzeny took off in a plane from Rome to photo where Mussolini was being held. The pilot ditched after being engaged by British fighters and Skorzeny suffered broken ribs and was pulled aboard the dinghy. despite this he dived back to the plane to get his camera before the aircraft sank. The crew then got onto some rocks and were picked up by an Italian anti-aircraft ship.

Re: He111 lost 18/8/43 with Skorzeny aboard
Hi guys
I have since been advised that German records show that the Heinkel DITCHED IN THE SEA off Olbia, but since there were no injuries or fatalities (although it appears from the above posting that Skorzeny suffered broken ribs) the identity if the crew and any passenger aboard were not recorded. Do we have a claim by an Allied fighter for a Heinkel in this area on that date? Cheers Brian |
