Possibilities

Systematic errors

1. The definition of a loss is not the same in both documents (e.g salvaged and Cat E after landing)

2. The digest includes a part or parts of the Med not covered by the MAW book

3. Their definitions of combat operations are different

Random errors

4. (Heresy) MAW is not as comprehensive as we thought

Without taking a month and going through each loss in turn to find the circumstances of those not in MAW and then coming up with a number you are not going to get an easy answer. Have to do the leg work to find out
