FW.190 night fighter loss, June 12/13 1944, Rouen

			Hello

On the night of June 12/13 1944, Halifax LK850 of 158 Squadron claimed an FW.190 near Rouen. The 158 Sqn. O.R.B. Form 541 has the following: At 01.38 hrs, 4940N 0225E height 8,000 on homeward trip Me-109 fired and R/G replied. No claim. At 01.56 hrs 4935N 0105E 7,000 ft. homeward saw red flare and then 2 FW.190 on port beam below. M/U/G gave 2 20-sec. bursts and saw one FW.190 burst into flames and go down. Confirmed by B/A and R/G and claimed destroyed. Is it possible there is an ID for this FW.190 the Halifax claimed? Many thanks, Regards Simon |

The principal role of the following was night bombing: I./SKG 10 (which became III./KG 51 and then NSG 20), Stab and 1./NSG 9, III./KG 200, Sonderverband Einhorn, III./SG 151 (+ intention to use 14./SG 151 but I don’t know if this happened before the surrender).

			Hello guys,

Though I do not exclude the chance that actually Fw190's were active that night, I would advice lots of precaution. As early as 1942 the Interception & Tactics Reports of RAF Bomber Command contain encounters of British bombers and one-engined German fighters, long before German fighters were involved in Wilde Sau nightfighting. Best regards, Marcel

Thank you for the further replies. Apologies for asking more questions, but this is well outside my knowledge.

![]() Does the fact that there seemed to be two single-engined fighters and a red flare being fired tie in with German 'Wilde Sau' tactics? The ORB mentions the Bf-109 that fired on them a few minutes earlier - could Bf-109s have in that area at night-time? Is this a case of mis-identification in one or indeed both cases? As an aside, the same crew and gunner claimed a Ju-88 on the night of June 16/17 1944 on an Op to Sterkrade in Halifax MZ703 NP-K, but the ORB does not give any details for timings or location. Dear all,

My WEB-page is based on a copy of an order from II/JK, Flg.Korps IX my two cents would be on a Fw190 from I/SKG 10. bregds SES |
