Last Lancaster operational flight
Film of the last operational flight of the Lancaster bomber in 1956. She was flown to RAF Wroughton and broken up. The officer 2nd from left at the start is my father, Sqn Ldr H W Taylor DFC, who was selected due to the number of operations that he flew in WW2. He died in November 2017 having served in the RAF from 1938 to 1975. Most of his WW2 service was with 218 (Gold Coast) Sqn, after the war he was with Coastal Command and Training Command flying Sunderlands, Shackletons, DC3s, Nimrods, Orions and a few other types. So I grew up with the sounds of 'heavies' in the background!
