The last WWII ace in a day, 1st Lt. Oscar Perdomo, 464th FS, 507th FG. His mount, a P-47N "Lil Meaties Meat Chooper"

The posted link about US pilots contains an incorrect date (must be a typo), cus McDaniel claimed 5 kills on 14 March, 1945, not the same date in 1944 (and this must be an overclaim)

I just counted the American Fighter Aces listings for 5+ and the count was
37 USAAF, 7 USMC, and 52 USN (53 events with McCambell scoring 9 and 7 on separate occasions)

The Fighter Aces Association used USAF 85 as the sole determinant so none of these include Ground scores -

Several Ace in a Day such as Bob Woody 4.5 on 24 April 1944 dropped out of the list after revising down on the shared score... from 5 to 4.5.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try and locate a copy of the book mentioned by Frank.

At the moment I'll stick with Allied pilots only.

Found a good link for Charles Curnow Scherf. He used to go 'on holiday' to 418 Sqn, his previous unit, and carry out lone sorties. He achieved more kills during these 'holidays' than he did while he served with the squadron.
