Re: II./JG-27 combats on 24 April 1944

The battles you describe were almost certainly with the 4th FG flying a sweep in front of the 1st BD. They clashed east of Stuttgart and around Worms. The LW also began strikes on 1BD near Ulm at 1215 and the 355th then 357th FGs engaged at 1315 and 1320 near Augsburg as the 1st BD proceeded east (north of Munich), bombed Erding in Ne corner, changed course to a waypoint SE of Munich then began bomb runs to Landsberg and Oberphaffenhofen In 1400-1415 timeframe.

Drgondog,

Thanks. I will certainly look into this and will keep piecing together what can be found. Gfr. Heilmann went down well to the south of Stuttgart. It's a shame the Luftwaffe records are not more detailed, but that's understandable given the circumstances.

Again thanks.

Best wishes,
John

Re: II./JG-27 combats on 24 April 1944

If I may ask, was there a difference between the local time used by the Luftwaffe and by the USAAF?

They were both on the same time GMT +2, the UK being on double summer time to match the continent
