RAF loss - Tunesia

Hello,

Is there anyone who can help me in my search after a downed RAF pilot?

I am particulary searching for a Spitfire who was shot down in Tunesia (area arround Mateur - Sidi N'Sir) on 22 april 1943.

The pilot managed to get out and was captured by the German soldiers that where in that active in that area.

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Stijn

I believe the pilot you are looking for is Warrant Officer W.H. Hunter RAF(Service No. 941800) of 72 Squadron, who was probably shot down by Ltn Heinz-Edgar Berres of I/JG77 south of Mateur. Hunter was taken prisoner.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Brian

Re: RAF loss - Tunesia

Hello,

Thank you very much for this information. Are there other RAF pilots downed in that area who could also fit the description?

Is there something known iff the Warrant Officer W.H. Hunter RAF(Service No. 941800) has survived the war ? or any information about him available?

Thank you

Re: RAF loss - Tunesia

Hi Stign

As far as I know Hunter was the only RAF casualty in this area.

I regret that I know nothing of subsequent events apart that he survived being a POW.

Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for that info + confirmation.

Do you have any idea iff it is possible to write towards some archive or official organisation to find the whearabouts of this pilot?
