Re: Ju 88 tail fin on ebay

Hi Kari,

The number 1_40 is actually painted on the fin part, thats confirmed by other people than me looking at the photos, those were about 5 cm high white letters painted on that fin but the second letter was ´smudget´ !

When ArtieBob pointed at that it could have been 1740 he was 75% right. (Then likely not 1237 below - ok?)

1237 Ju 88 8L+FK 2./KuflGr 506 (Gen.d.Lw. b.Ob.d.M. East) OPS (F) missing (100%) unk location (Oesel) 04.10.1941 (F Uffz. Ernst Probst mis/rep killed in h/18.11.41, B Lt.z.S. Hans Ide mis, BF Obgefr. Herbert Schwabe mis/rep killed in h/18.11.41, BM Fw. Joachim Lemeke mis/rep washed-a-shore in b/18.07.42)

Re: Ju 88 tail fin on ebay

Hello!

I should have read more carefully what was written as indeed the Werke Nummer and loss was mentioned earlier by you, Ed. Somehow this went past my eyes - it was the location where the Ju 88 fin was found which first catched my attention in this thread.

I asked in a popular Estonian military history forum about Ju 88s shot down over Saaremaa. It is known only two Ju 88 crash places: one in sea near Tehumardi and another one at Leisi (area) in woods. Quite likely one of these is WNr 1237 (Tehumardi, in sea) and the other WNr 1240 (Leisi is "near" Kuressaare if some 20km - 12 miles - is near). More information is needed to verify which one is which.

One Estonian digital map with search engine can be found here:

Regards,

Kari

Re: Ju 88 tail fin on ebay

Seems the fin is no longer available!

Best regards,
Mathieu.
