Re: Bf109 Shot Down 9/10th July 1941
Chris,
I think your right about the claim. But I am sure that they would have been able to identify a Bf109 over a Bf110, JU88 or Do215. I am still trying to establish if any Bf109 units were operational this night. Steve

Re: Bf109 Shot Down 9/10th July 1941
JG 1, III./NJG 1, I./JG 3, I./JG 52, JG 53 were present in this area at that time and absolutely nothing matches. The JG 52 incident mentioned was engine failure-nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Bf109 Shot Down 9/10th July 1941
With established night fighters round and about that night making claims, I think the day fighters would have left it to them. Theo Boiten might like to comment but it was not normal for day fighters at this time to be used as night fighters

Re: Bf109 Shot Down 9/10th July 1941
No Luftwaffe single-engined day fighters operational by night in the summer of 1941, only twin-engined night fighters. All known info on documented NJ losses & NJ a/c damaged on ops are detailed in the NCA series.
