Re: Plt Off J G Pattison 92 Sqn 23 Sep 40

I found this on:

https://www.netweather.tv/forum/topi...-diary/page/6/

Note: the name is not what you posted, but it seems incident seems very similar. Incident is dated "23rd September 1940".

Search for "Patterson" (not Pattision). Note: West Malling is about 2 miles from the hospital.

"A spitfire of 92 Sqn Biggin Hill piloted by P/O A.J.S.Patterson, engaged in aerial combat over Gravesend was hit, forcing the pilot to break away from the action. He tried to make for the aerodrome at West Malling, but in an attempted forced landing the Spitfire crashed into the ground wounding P/O Patterson in the upper leg."

The same incident is given on this site: https://www.battleofbritain1940.net/0050.html and it gives the time as 10:00.

UPDATE: Then (of course) there is this about Squadron Leader John Gordon Pattison: ;-)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_P...RNZAF_officer)

"On 23 September Pattison was attacked by a Bf 109 over Gravesend and received serious thigh wounds from a cannon shell, crash-landing at West Malling airfield. He spent eight months in hospital, but recovered and rejoined the squadron in June 1941 before becoming an instructor at 61 OTU a month later."

This may be a case where Wikipedia has it correct.
