Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft

Hello,

Currently on ebay a nice photo of two early USAAS aircraft, Martin TT serial 50 and a Curtiss JN-2, serial 47 perhaps? at:

Clint

A very nice photo!!

While the TT is indisputable I would venture an educated (oh well... ) guess and say the other aircraft is a JN-4B No 157. At this time all surviving JN-2 had been modified to JN-3 standard and was with No 1 Squadron (all having a star on their fins)

Another reason is, not that I am a Curtiss Jenny expert, but because I have Robert Casari's 'Bible' by my side.

At this time both the Martin and this particular Jenny was on a search for two missing fliers from bases in southern Calidornia (Dec 1916 -Jan 1917). Casari specifically mentions that TT No 50 was in on that search.

Easy, peacy when you have the 'Bible' right in front of you....

Cheers

Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft

Hi Stig,

If you like the photo the seller has many more potentially interesting photos from the Woodhouse Collection. I haven't posted any of them because most are civilian aircraft or in a few cases post WW.I, but you may find him worth checking out.

Thanks for the accurate info on the JN. I was definitely taking a guess on that one and seeing the 7 thought 47. Good to have the correct info.

Regards,

Clint

Thanks Clint

Yes I have gone through the Woodhouse collection and saved some of them.
Unfortunately most are quite indifferent to me....

Cheers

Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft

Hello,

Currently on ebay is a small collection of photos including several Curtiss JN-4 variants taken at Eberts Field including an ambulance aircraft:

Not all (any?) appear to be from WWI as advertised by the seller.

Clint
