Fw 190 A-8 NL?

In production between December 1944 and Februrary 1945, German Wiki mention the production of 846 Fw 190 A-8 NL. Any idea what this NL designation might stand for?

Thank you

Post Re: Fw 190 A-8 NL?

hello alfred,

maybe "Notleistung (= emergency power)

Quote:
In addition to the performance-enhancing MW-50 system, the A-8 was equipped with increased emergency power as standard from July 1944. This allowed the boost pressure at ground level to be increased from 1.42 ata to 1.58 ata and at higher altitudes to 1.65 ata. This measure led - depending on the altitude - to an increase in top speed between 22 and 25 km/h, whereby, for example, the maximum speed of the Fw 190 A-8 rose from 548 km/h to 578 km/h at ground level and from 644 km/h to 652 km/h at an altitude of 6300 m. In contrast to the C-3 injection system, no additional fuel injection was required here. As with all systems for special and emergency engine power, its use was limited to ten minutes (although it could be used several times per operation after the engine had cooled down.[21]

Re: Fw 190 A-8 NL?

The Flugzeugverteilung for Dec-Feb report 846 Fw 190 A-8 NL. So at least we know where the data originated. The C-Amts Monatsmeldung for Nov 44 and Jan 45 have no Fw 190 A 8 NL, but the number of Fw 190 A 8 in January is exactly that shown on the Flugzeugverteilung of Dec 44 for Fw 190 A 8 NL. On the Monatsmelduung, the only other Fw 190 A 8 quantities were for Fw 190 A 8 R2 and R11, this agrees with the Flugzeugverteilung.

I do not have any explanation for the meaning of "NL", except it is not included in the list of Zusatzbuchstaben I have , which defines these designations, however my copy is dated 20.4.43 and could have been out of date by late 1944. I can find no other use of "NL' neither for any other sub-type of the Fw 190 , Bf 109 or other aircraft. In practice, the Fw 190 A-8 NL appears to have been just a normal production
Fw 190 A-8.

Best regards,

ArtieBob

Re: Fw 190 A-8 NL?

NL is indeed Notleistung, Fw 190 with this designation had increased emergency power of 1,58 ata instead of 1,42 ata.
Fieseler had a bunch of A-8 starting at 680831 with this feature.
This aircraft had also a yellow ring before the windshield.

Re: Fw 190 A-8 NL?

Thank you guys, I was suspecting something like that.

So look like I got banned from LRG for posting this question, its owner is jealous and obsessed with TOCH and removed me (within hours!) for acquiring knowledge outside of his lair (and particularly out of his control). So as he is reading everything on this board, guys say:

Hi Clint

So LRG members, use the same user name to post on this board at your own risks . And for those who are experiencing slowdown, it's just he have nothing proved on you (and posting a question on TOCH or being a member of some Facebook group is enough remember...) and make your use of his forum as painful as possible. Experienced first hand.

As it is the custom when he chose to ban someone, there's probably a derogatory post on LRG about me, with dubious accusations. But I hope by now people understand how he see people that did not serve him, if his coercive messages weren't clear enough.
