Thumbs up Personal file RAF personel

Goodmorning ,

I have few questions , first as a amateur researcher on the air war over Belgium in WWII i would like to know where and how i can find or ask for the personel file of a RAF airman . Second , would there be a picture op the person in his file , the Canadian and Australian file has normally a picture in it.

Thanks in advance for the help

Re: Personal file RAF personel

If I am not much mistaken such files are now held at RAF Cranwell and unlike Canada & Australia, copies of records of service are only generally made available to the person themselves or next of kin at a cost. I got it for my father in law and he for his father and all that we got was a copy of the record, nothing else from the file & no photos

Re: Personal file RAF personel

I have an idea that UK service records for unrelated persons are only available after 100 years, so presumably details would be available for the RAF airmen serving in 1920 or before. I guess we have to wait till 2045 for WW2.

Has anyone tried getting Service records for unrelated persons in the UK?

Until the current world situation, I used to obtain them quite often. Not related to any of them.

If lost in the war, no waiting period. If survived, death plus 25 years.

Anybody who has seen them can attest you get just chapter and verse of the man's postings. Never seen a photograph in one as you do in the RAAF and RCAF files.

Regards,

Dave

Re: Personal file RAF personel

Hmm, Polish Air Force files held by MoD contain definitely more than a record sheet.
