Banff Wing combats 11.01.45 and 21.04.45

I have read many accounts of these battles but haven't encountered definitive lists of the claims made, and have seen massively differeing lists of the claimants.

On January 11, 1946 the claims were 3-0-0 Bf109G and 1-1-1 Fw190. Probably of JG-5

I know that FLt Noel Russells claimed two Bf109 and WO Cogswell claimed a probable Fw190.

On April 21, 1945 the squadrons of the Banff Wing claimed 9-1-? Ju88/Ju188. Other messages on the forum attribute kills to both WCdr Christopher Foxley-Norris of 143 Squadron and Sldr HHK Gunnis of 248 Squadron being identified although most articles about these pilots do not mention victories. Cogswell and Webster of 235 Squadron definitely claimed kills as do Eriksen and Golightly of 333 Squadron.

I know that Chris Goss has a book that covers this "Sea Eagles v.3 )but it's rare and now £113 on Amazon and that's a bit steep, Sorry Chris. It's not even held in the NLS in Edinburgh.

regards

Keith

For 11 Jan 45 (not 46), sqns involved were 455, 144, 489, 404, 143, 235 and 248. Suggest you look at "A Separate Little War" by Andrew Bird

Surprising but a trawl of the F540s are the only solution

Sadly original copy cut from 200,000 words to 90,000.

Andy,
Time for an "author's edition" reprint, perhaps? I'd sign up for a copy.
