Unknown plane- for me

Here it is an image of airplane with German WW2 markings. I really don't know anything about the type and would be happy if anybody would be kind to provide more info. It look like that fron part is the design similar to the pre war Italian Bugatti racer plane which have two engine behind the cockpit and transmision aside the pilots cockpit space to the propeller on the front. Sorry for the small image but even the larger one is not much sharper.

Re: Unknown plane- for me

This has been discussed (to death) on other forums - there are considerable differences in opinion but mine is that the aircraft is an unconvincing fake. Possibly it was stuck together from available parts as a decoy or as a joke on Allied photo-interpreters, though it seems a little complex for either. The photo is supposedly on wartime film stock but this has not been confirmed from professional sources.

Problem: nobody has certain info on that. It is a set of two photos. Two different photoqualities are known. But the a/c remains a mystery.

Re: Unknown plane- for me

Fascinating photos. The prop doesn't look German, but it does look Black Green RLM 70. No octane triangle can be see, but the Cross seems correct as do the shades of camo colors and the nose wheel tire. If it's an airfield dummy it's the most complicated one I've ever seen. If I had to guess it would be that it was made for a movie.

Re: Unknown plane- for me

Hello,
Mr. Gebhard Aders, author of books like "Geschichte der Deutschen Nachtjagd" just gave an answer regarding that unknown plane at the Luftarchiv forum

http://www.luftarchiv.info/viewtopic.php?p=32134#32134

In short, he talked to some Heinkel experts, which declared the photos as genuine without a doubt, one of the experts had held the photos in his own hands.
According to the experts, in the years 1939 to 1940 Heinkel was working on 8 prototypes, it is possible that the photos show one of them.

Regards
Robert

Re: Unknown plane- for me

Looks fake to me.

It may look funky on the outside, but the inside looks pretty impossible.

Cooling, no trace - so surface evaporating?

Engine, H or X-cylinder - so name a couple that fit the bill?

Prop shaft, so where is there room for gear?

Pretty certain it is a fake, it would take pretty hard evidence to make me change my mind.

Re: Unknown plane- for me

Yes, I was also sceptic about these photo's, so I sent them to a well respected specialist on Heinkel aircraft, dr. Volker Koos.

He confirmed that the photo's are not recently made photo-manipulations but genuine old photo's (certainly before computor-programms made it possible to produce real-looking photo fakes).

About the origin of the photo's "Pilot" refers to, many message-boards posted these photo's. That's something you will have to live with when you post original photo's on the internet, despite the message you put on it stating that no further distribution is allowed without your permission.
Taking action on all those boards is too much trouble.

But you have my permission to reproduce the photo's here.

Just keep an open mind. Photo's of aircraft never seen before keep appearing, even after so many years.

Or should I say just because so many years have past.

This is the time that many photo's appear taken by German soldiers, airmen and sailors, because those men have died and their photo-legacies are up for sale.

Regards,
Jan
