Re: Who bombed Insterburg on 27 July 1944 ?
Fun fact: I have found a dozen Russian webpages all saying Insterburg was bombed by British aircraft that night.
From searches of death cards on fold3, it seems that the bombing was during the night of 27-28 July 1944. I found eight men of 2./Marsch Batl z.b.V. 424 who died on 28 July 1944, cause "Bo. Spl" (which I translate as "Bomben Splitter", bomb schrapnel). Five other German soldiers died in Insterburg that day, but with no reason given. No German soldiers died in Insterburg on 26 or 27 July. |
