Accurate crash locations 1./128 15 Aug 43

1./128 lost two Fw 190 A-5s to Typhoons of 266 Sqn this date. Ofw Georg Sievert is said to have crashed at Le Folgoet and Ofw Hans Gryz at Le Folgoet/Ploudandiel; is this correct?

Hello Chris,

according to the GQM loss returns both planes crashed north of Landerneau.
In JFV 10/IV are listed the crash locations Le Folgoët (Ofw Sievert, Fw 190 A-5/U8 1523) and Ploudaniel (Ofw Gryz Fw 190 A-5/U8 840127).

Regards
Leo

The two 266 Squadron pilots were Flight Lieutenant Wright and Flight Sergeant Erasmus, and they claimed the two Fw 190s were shot up and damaged near Guipavas. Landerneau is just 11.5 km E of Guipavas. The land in between is farm and pasture land with some small woods, the largest of these covering 3 x 1.75 km and running to the W and SW of Landerneau.

N.B.: I wonder if the 266 Sqdn. ORB might have more details on the crash site? Or any of these Lw. afld. command files at BA-MA?
Koflug 10/XII Morlaix: Anlagen covering May - August 1943 available.
Fl.Pl.Kdo. A 15/XII (Jan 43 – Apr/Jun 44) Brest-Guipavas - possibly.
Fl.H.Kdtr. A (See) 304/XI (Mar 43 – Jun 44) Brest-Poulmic - none listed.

Erasmus said the Fw 190 he attacked came down close to another aircraft burning on the ground which was presumably Typhoon JP492 which crashed at Le Folgoët. R8767 came down in the sea while DN296 came down at Kerlesdrec

Chris, do you have an original RAF map for that area? Maybe you can pinpoint more accurately the places you are looking for, on an original 1:250,000 or 1:50,000 original map..what do you think? Just an idea...am not sure if WW2 survey of this area is available to compare with nowadays photos on Google Earth.

Just an idea, of course...

Adriano: Not sure what you mean. Both general locations are known but where exactly in those locations did the aircraft crash?
