Some photos of a FW 190 at Lechfeld with Me 262s in the background

Good morning,

These photos were posted by 'Duggy' on the axis-and-allies-paintworks.com site. They were taken outside the hangar used by Watson's Whizzers. 'White 40' is probably the lone propeller aircraft seen in the panoramic view on p. 58 of Brown etal., Messerschmitt Me 262 Production & Arado Ar 234 Final Operations, JaPo 2012.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=736

On the far right of this photo are a lineup of three Me 262s. The first is Me 262 A-1a/U3 W.Nr. 500853 'white surround 29'. Behind it is most likely the engineless Me 262 A-1a W.Nr. 110526 'white 15'. The third with light coloured rudder and engines is probably Me 262 V9 W.Nr. 130004 'VI+AD'.

On the right of this photo is most likely 'V078' whose upper tail, including the werknummer, was removed and attached to 'V303'.

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=737

Probably another view of 'V078' showing rear mounting for the BMW 003.

On the right, perhaps is the forlorn 'V303' without its nose.

best regards,

Jim

Re: Some photos of a FW 190 at Lechfeld with Me 262s in the background

Jim,

The late Jim Crow had these photos in his collection from many years ago. It is possible that these copies came from the original source Jim obtained his copies.

As an aside, in the third photo Messerschmitt test pilot Karl Baur can be seen walking behind the Fw 190’s tail (note his clogs!).

Best,

David

Hi David,

Thank you for the identification of Karl Baur. The only other photo I have seen of him is in Samuel's American Raiders where he is wearing sunglasses also. This is much appreciated.

Jim
